Our Honey

PLACE

A pristine patch of the earth

The honey that goes into Heirloom Honey is extremely rare. It is harvested from a biodiversity hotspot in one of the most isolated regions on the expansive Australian continent. South Western Australia is a pristine, clean, green environment. Our forests produce an extremely unique type of honey, unlike anything anywhere in Australia or the rest of the world.

FLOWERING

The rhythm of the forest

Flowering occurs only sporadically, with honey flows lasting just a few weeks at a time. In the past, these blooms would happen every second year during late spring to early summer. However, with changing climate patterns, the consistency of flowering has declined.

We meticulously seek out specific locations where flowering is currently happening. It's akin to a gold rush—swift action is essential. We swiftly transport the hives to these areas, sometimes covering hundreds of kilometers to collect the flower nectar.

The bees we currently work with are descendants of the original hives established by Ken Spurge decades ago.

HERITAGE

Three generations of intuitive knowledge

With over 60 years of family beekeepers, we craft honey by carefully nurturing the world's healthiest bees.

The Spurge family's heritage, guided by patience and process, works with a continuous lineage of royal queens, moving them only under moonlight for their welfare.

Yielding a honey so exceptional and pure, it encapsulates our dedication to the craft in every drop of this small batch honey.

THE SCIENCE

Potent Antibacterial Properties - TA35+

Heirloom Honey's premium, pure raw honey offers a range of potential health benefits due to its natural composition and minimal processing. Our honey has positive effects on human health with a large number of bioactive compounds that have antioxidant, antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties.

All our honey contains various antioxidants, such as flavonoids and phenolic compounds, which help protect the body from oxidative stress and damage caused by free radicals. The positive health effects of our honey are attributed to its high concentration of polyphenolic compounds (flavonoids).

Our honey also acts as a prebiotic and probiotic to feed and support gut bacteria, aiding digestion. It is nature’s superfood filled with trace elements, amino acids, vitamins, and minerals.
